Smart locks for glass and aluminium doors

A Meloc Slim lock on a narrow door frame

Short answer. Glass and aluminium frame doors are narrow, so a standard smart lock often does not fit. You need a slim-bodied lock made for frame doors, and a door-fit check before purchase. Meloc Slim is the family designed for these entrances.

Why are glass and aluminium doors different?

A wooden or metal front door gives a lock plenty of material to mount into. An aluminium frame door has a thin stile, often only a few centimetres wide. A glass door may have almost no frame at all.

A standard smart lock body is too wide for many of these doors. Trying to force it creates gaps, weak fixing and a door that does not close cleanly.

Which doors need a slim lock?

Slim locks are made for entrances where the frame is narrow and the door is often seen from outside.

  • Shopfronts and office entrances
  • Glass and aluminium balcony or terrace doors
  • Aluminium-frame doors in modern buildings
  • Internal glass partitions

What does Meloc Slim offer?

Meloc Slim has a narrow body designed for aluminium and glass doors. It uses fingerprint, PIN, card, app and key, and comes in silver and black finishes.

It is sold in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, and our teams check the door before fitting.

What should I measure or photograph?

Before you speak to a supplier, collect a few simple facts. They make the door check faster and the quote more accurate.

  • Width of the frame at the lock height
  • Whether the glass is framed or frameless
  • The existing lock or latch, if any
  • Which side the handle is on
  • A photo of the edge and both faces of the door

Are there security points to keep in mind?

Glass is the weak point on a glass door, whatever the lock. A strong lock does not help if the pane itself can be broken. For shopfronts, consider the glass type and a shutter or alarm for out-of-hours.

A smart lock adds convenience and access control. It does not make glass stronger. Be clear about that when you plan the entrance.

How do I keep access flexible for staff?

In shops and offices, many people open the same door. Use PIN codes or cards per person where the lock allows it, and remove them when someone leaves. Keep the mechanical key with the owner or manager as backup.

What should I ask the supplier about my glass door?

Bring a clear photo and ask directly whether the lock is designed for your door type. If the answer is vague, ask for the person who checks doors.

Ask how the lock is fixed. On narrow frames and glass, the fixing method matters as much as the lock itself. It should hold firmly without stressing the frame or the glass.

Ask what happens if the door is replaced later. A good supplier will tell you whether the lock can move to a new door of the same type.

Can I use the same lock on a balcony door?

Often yes, if the frame is similar. Balcony and terrace doors are frequently aluminium or glass, and a slim lock is designed for exactly that kind of door. The conditions are different outside, though, so ask how the lock should be protected from rain and sun.

Meloc Slim is described for shopfronts, offices and terraces, and our team confirms the fit before installation.

Questions and answers

Can I put a normal smart lock on an aluminium door?

Often not. The frame is too narrow for a standard body. A slim lock made for frame doors is the safer route.

Does Meloc check my door first?

Yes. Our team checks the door before installation so the lock matches it.

Does a smart lock make a glass door more secure?

It improves access control. It does not strengthen the glass itself, so plan for that separately.
