Smart lock installation guide

Short answer. A good smart lock installation starts with a door check, then fitting, then setting up users and the app. Your job is to prepare the door, clear the area and decide who needs access. Meloc locks are installed by Meloc teams, not self-fitted.

What happens before installation?

First comes the door check. The installer looks at the material, thickness, existing lock and frame. They confirm that the lock you chose fits, or recommend a better match.

This is the step that avoids most problems. A lock that fits properly is easier to fit, closes cleanly and lasts longer.

How should I prepare my door?

A little preparation saves time on the day.

  • Clear the space on both sides of the door
  • Make sure the door closes and latches without force
  • Remove anything fixed to the door that gets in the way
  • Have the old keys and any existing lock parts ready
  • Decide where the Wi-Fi router is if you want remote access

What does the installer do?

A typical installation removes the old lock if there is one, prepares the door, fits the new lock body and handle, and aligns the latch and bolt. The mechanical action is tested before the electronics are switched on.

Once the mechanics run smoothly, the batteries go in and the lock is powered up. Meloc installs with its own teams in Tbilisi, Baku and Tashkent.

How are users and the app set up?

After fitting, the first users are registered. On a fingerprint lock this means enrolling fingers, on a keypad it means setting an admin code, and on Prime it also means enrolling faces.

Meloc locks work with Smart Life (Tuya) or TTLock. Ask the installer to show you how to connect it, share access and view entry history where the lock supports it.

What should I check before the installer leaves?

Do not skip this. Test everything while the installer is still there.

  • Open and close the door from both sides
  • Try every unlock method you will use
  • Test the mechanical key once
  • Ask where the low-battery warning appears
  • Note the warranty and who to call for service

Why not fit it myself?

Smart locks combine precise mechanics with electronics. A small misalignment is hard to spot and causes jams or early wear. For that reason, Meloc locks are fitted by Meloc teams, so the same people who fit your lock can service it.

What if my door needs work first?

Sometimes the door check turns up a problem. A sagging door, a warped frame or a worn hinge makes any lock harder to fit and use. A good installer will tell you, rather than fit over the problem.

Fixing the door first is cheaper than replacing a lock that wears out early. It also makes the finished door feel better to use.

What should I keep after installation?

Keep the mechanical keys, the lock details and the installer's contact. Put the keys somewhere safe, with at least one stored away from the home.

Write down the admin code and who has which access. Store it somewhere private, not on a sticker beside the door.

If you move out or sell the property, remove your own users and hand over the admin details to the next owner or landlord.

Questions and answers

How long does installation take?

It depends on the door and the lock. Your installer can tell you after the door check.

Do I need to be present?

It helps. You can enrol your fingers or face and learn the app while the installer is there.

Who services the lock afterwards?

Warranty and service are handled locally by Meloc teams in each country.
